US Central Command (CENTCOM) said US forces completed a new round of strikes on
Iran on July 8, hitting about 90 military targets to degrade Iran’s ability to
attack merchant ships and seafarers in the Strait of Hormuz. Reported targets
included air-defence systems, coastal reconnaissance assets, missile and drone
storage facilities, naval capabilities and coastal military logistics
infrastructure. CENTCOM said the action followed a July 7 offensive strike that
hit roughly 80 Iranian military targets — including more than 60 Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps small fast boats — aimed at penalizing Iran for
violating a ceasefire after attacks on three merchant vessels transiting the
Strait. CENTCOM added US forces remain vigilant, combat-capable and ready to
execute commanders’ orders.
