Alam Saleh, a lecturer at the Australian National University, stated that for Iran, "this war is a matter of life and death. As President Trump said, they intended to end Iranian civilization, and Iran successfully contained the war." Saleh added, "NATO has now become yet another failure for President Trump—both during and after the war, he has failed to persuade NATO to join the operation. NATO is essentially a defensive organization, and its collective security mechanisms are limited to specific regions." He further added, "To join the US in opening the Strait of Hormuz, NATO must completely change its mindset, adopt an offensive posture, and become a global player—a transformation into an organization with a global mission—but this is realistically impossible."
