CNN reports President Trump considered cutting U.S. forces stationed in Europe
by about one-third this spring to signal NATO allies after they declined to join
his planned action against Iran. Around the same time the Pentagon two canceled
deployments to Europe and ordered other personnel withdrawn. U.S. Defense
Secretary Hegseth had planned to announce larger reductions—potentially up to
one-third—at June's NATO meeting but, after consultations with other senior
officials, converted the plan into a six-month review of U.S. forces in Europe.
