Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the CPCA, said passenger-car promotions and
model downgrading have normalized since 2025 and market order has improved. The
restoration of the NEV purchase tax means manufacturers' guide prices now affect
consumers' tax liabilities. As dealers and makers reshape pricing, 22 models cut
prices in May 2026 and 7 in June — materially fewer than the large-scale cuts in
Mar–Jun last year; June's tally was 7 models fewer YoY. Of June's cuts, 4 were
internal-combustion models (down 2 YoY) and 1 was a PHEV (down 1 YoY). Cui said
pressure on gasoline cars and narrow-definition PHEVs remains high, so price
adjustments are understandable.
