According to GlobalData, mobile service revenue in Malaysia is projected to grow from US$5.4 billion in 2025 to US$6.3 billion in 2030, representing a CAGR of 3.4%, primarily driven by the mobile data services segment. The "Malaysia Mobile Forecast (Q1 2026)" report indicates that mobile data revenue will offset a decline in mobile voice revenue. GlobalData telecom analyst Savat Zishan stated that average monthly mobile data usage per Malaysian will increase from 27GB in 2025 to 62GB in 2030. This is attributed to the growth in online video and social media content consumption on smartphones, as well as the increasing availability and rollout of 5G service packages. By 2025, the number of 5G users in Malaysia will have surpassed the number of 4G users. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a second 5G wholesale network license to U.Mobile, allowing it to operate alongside Digital Nasional Berhad. In April 2025, U.Mobile selected Huawei and ZTE as technology partners for its 5G and 5G-Advanced network deployments, including network slicing and indoor coverage optimization. During the period, the number of machine-to-machine and IoT connections will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 11.8%.
