South Korea’s deputy finance minister said on Thursday Seoul is in close
communication with Japan and other major allies on foreign-exchange matters and
warned the won has significantly diverged from economic fundamentals. He said
authorities maintain close cooperation and information sharing with Japan and
related countries. Asked about potential intervention, he declined to elaborate
but said the government is prepared to take stabilizing measures if insufficient
market liquidity leads to excessive exchange-rate volatility.
