According to Challenger, a U.S. employment data company, employers have announced 443,604 job cuts as of June this year, a 40% decrease from the 744,308 announced in the first half of 2025. This is the second-highest total number of layoffs from January to June since 2020, second only to the government-driven surge in layoffs last year. This is also the fourth time this year that the number of layoffs in a single month has been lower than the same period last year.
