The European Commission published a new steel import quota regime to curb duty-free steel entering the EU and protect regional producers. Annual duty-free import quotas are cut 47% to 18.3 mln tonnes; imports of 26 steel product categories above quota will face a 50% tariff. The measures take effect Wednesday and target raising EU steel capacity utilization to 80%.
