Iraq’s foreign minister told a joint press conference in Baghdad with Iran’s
foreign minister that Baghdad is willing to mediate between the US and Iran to
help end the conflict, saying Iraq maintains good relations with both and is
prepared to work with both sides. He said Iraq has previously facilitated
US–Iran cooperation. Despite a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the
US, he added that clashes in the Strait of Hormuz continue and warned the war
must end to avoid regional destruction.
