On June 26, China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security issued Interim Provisions on the Vocational Qualification System for Elderly Care Workers, effective on publication. The rules establish a competency-assessment occupational qualification for professionals providing elderly care in home, community and institutional settings and set three levels: junior, intermediate and senior. Junior and intermediate levels will follow a nationally unified syllabus, unified exam content and unified exam administration; rules for the senior qualification will be issued separately. The interim provisions comprise 23 articles covering general provisions, examinations, professional competence, registration and supplementary provisions.
