South Korea is experiencing renewed 'egg inflation' and consumers are shopping around as the government increases imports to offset weaker domestic supply, local media reported, citing the Korea Animal Products Quality Evaluation Institute and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. As of mid-month, the retail price for a 30-egg carton averaged 7,506 won, up 7.1% YoY. The average retail price for a 10-egg premium carton rose to 5,229 won, exceeding 5,000 won for the first time, up 16.7% from May and nearly 39% YoY. Daily egg supply this month averaged 47.05 million eggs, down 3.3% YoY.
