Two earthquakes above magnitude 7 struck northern Venezuela within a minute on the evening of June 24 local time (morning of June 25 Beijing). The USGS placed the epicenter about 160 km west of Caracas at a depth of 10 km. Buildings in Caracas were damaged; casualty figures are unknown. The quakes occurred on a public holiday while many people were at home. Venezuela's acting president Rodríguez will address the nation.
