At 06:30 Beijing time on June 25 a magnitude-6.9 earthquake struck off eastern
Honshu, hypocenter depth 50 km. Japan reported a seismic intensity of upper-6 on
the JMA 10-point scale (second-highest). No tsunami warning was issued. In a
morning briefing the Japan Meteorological Agency said similar-magnitude shocks
could occur over the next week, that stronger shaking cannot be ruled out, and
urged the public to remain vigilant.
