The UK Climate Change Committee said the government must cut power costs to meet
a mid-century net‑zero target, including removing 'green levies' from energy
bills. The committee reported 2025 greenhouse gas emissions fell 1.8% YoY and
are 50% below 1990 levels. Chair Nigel Topping warned the shift to clean power
is not progressing fast enough and said stronger government support to
accelerate EV and heat‑pump adoption is essential to meet climate goals and save
costs, adding that political uncertainty or any weakening of current commitments
could slow the transition, harm investment and undermine the long‑term stability
businesses require.
