Oman announced early on the 24th it has coordinated with the International
Maritime Organization to open a temporary sea lane through the Strait of Hormuz
for all vessels, citing its responsibility for the strait and its importance to
the global economy. The lane will operate under international law, including the
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, will not charge passage fees,
and will follow navigational coordinates published by the IMO and Omani
authorities; vessels must coordinate with the IMO in advance. Oman said the step
reflects outcomes from US‑Iran negotiations and mediation efforts.
