June 23, 2026, New Delhi — Indian Prime Minister Modi met Wang Yi, member of the CPC Politburo and director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, and other BRICS senior security representatives. Modi said India supports China taking the BRICS chair rotating next year and will work with China to advance BRICS cooperation and safeguard Global South interests. Wang Yi conveyed Chinese leadership’s good wishes, said China and India should lead unity and self-reliance among Global South nations, urged implementation of leaders’ consensus, greater mutual trust, proper handling of sensitive issues and deeper mutually beneficial cooperation, and said China will continue to support India in fulfilling its BRICS rotating-chair responsibilities. Wang also met Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval during the visit.
