China CDC surveillance shows rhinovirus is now the dominant respiratory pathogen. Healthy adults usually recover in 7–10 days; infants, the elderly, immunocompromised patients and those with asthma or COPD may develop bronchiolitis or COPD exacerbations. Seek medical care for fever >3 days, severe lethargy, dyspnea/chest tightness, or infant feeding refusal/dehydration. No specific antiviral exists; treatment is supportive care. Antibiotics and oseltamivir are ineffective against rhinovirus.
