India plans to transfer technology for its most reliable rocket, the Polar
Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), to private companies, IN-SPACe chairman Pawan
Goenka said, aiming to speed domestic rocket manufacturing and position India as
a small-satellite launch hub. IN-SPACe has issued a letter of intent to transfer
PSLV-related technology; only companies that are Indian-owned and controlled
will be eligible. The move follows Prime Minister Modi’s 2019 decision to open
the space sector and comes after hundreds of space startups have formed. PSLV
recorded two consecutive launch failures over the past year after a prior streak
of more than 60 successful missions. Goenka said major conglomerates are closely
watching the market for investment opportunities but did not identify them.
