US President Trump said Italian Prime Minister Meloni repeatedly tried to get photos with him at the G7 while opposing the US stance on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He alleged Meloni refused US use of Italian airfields, causing major logistical problems despite the United States investing Hundreds of billions of dollars annually to defend Italy and other NATO allies. Trump added that, after the US had 'militarily defeated' Iran, Meloni sought to repair relations to boost her domestic support; he said he rejected the overture.
