Apple Inc. plans to let users select third-party AI models to power features across iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, expanding beyond the current exclusive integration with ChatGPT. The “Extensions” system will enable access to external models via supported App Store apps for tools like Siri, Writing Tools and Image Playground. Apple is testing integrations with Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Anthropic PBC. The shift reflects Apple’s strategy to position its devices as a broad AI platform, while warning users it isn’t responsible for third-party content.
