Alibaba Group and China Telecom are launching a southern China data center
powered by Alibaba’s Zhenwu AI chips, featuring 10,000 semiconductors capable of
training and running models with hundreds of billions of parameters. The project
highlights China’s push for domestic AI infrastructure and chip
self-sufficiency, as US restrictions on advanced semiconductors—including those
from Nvidia—accelerate local innovation.
