Malta is opposing plans to shift crypto supervision to the Paris-based European
Securities and Markets Authority, which would transfer oversight of major firms
such as Crypto.com, Gemini and Bitpanda. The EU argues centralization would
improve investor protection and channel bank deposits into capital markets.
Kenneth Farrugia said the move risks disadvantaging early adopters, while
officials push for bloc-wide coordination.
